Did you know that the London Marathon, which takes place on Sunday, is the single biggest annual fundraising event in the world?

Over the years, it has raised more than one billion pounds for charity and inspired a host of weird and wacky running achievements.Let’s look at some of those eyebrow-raising antics.

𝗙𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗳𝘂𝗻
Bananas, bears, bottles, gorillas, rhinos and telephone boxes have all completed the race in recent years, along with Big Bird, Buzz Lightyear, Mona Lisa and Henry VIII.

𝗟𝗶𝗻𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗽
Last year, Northern Irishmen Daniel Gallagher and Jack Meegan ran handcuffed together. The duo finished in under three hours, setting a new Guinness World Record for the fastest men’s marathon while handcuffed.In 2022, six runners competed together in a giant fruit bowl while dressed as fruit.

𝗠𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸𝗲𝗿
In 2015, Californian teacher Jerry Knox made it into the record books by dribbling two basketballs while he ran the marathon. He finished in just over four hours.
