History
Romford has a rich history and has been an important town for centuries. Located on the route for London to Colchester, Romford has a heritage dating back to pre-Roman times. The town was an important market town throughout the Middle Ages, and the market still operates today, although cattle trading stopped in 1958.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, Romford became a centre for the leather and brewing industries.

The town was historically part of Essex, until becoming part of Greater London in 1963 and part of the London Borough of Havering in 1965.

The town was heavily bombed during World War II, and many historic buildings were destroyed. However, some historic landmarks remain, including the 15th-century church of St. Edward the Confessor and The Golden Lion Public House.
